I Am Resolved

Sometimes we sing a song entitled “I Am Resolved”.  According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, to resolve means to “reach a firm decision about”.  We find ourselves at a time of year when people are making some resolutions in reference to health, weight, habits, family etc.  As we enter 2004, we should all reach a firm decision about certain things.  Let us all say “I am resolved”…

To Study More.  The Bible places great importance and value in study of God’s word.  Paul commanded Timothy to “give attention to reading” (I Timothy 4:13).  Study is something necessary to our growth as Christians.  Peter tells us we must, “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (II Peter 3:18).  Remember the daily Bible reading program we are starting and to “search the Scriptures daily” as the Bereans did (Acts 17:11).  Be resolved to study more.

To Teach Others.  We are taught to teach others (II Timothy 2:2).  Christians in the first century took this responsibility quite seriously.  In fact, Paul could say that the Gospel had been preached to every creature under Heaven in Colossians 1:23.  Are we as involved in teaching as they were?  We should be because we know that the Gospel is God’s power to save man (Romans 1:16).  Be resolved to teach others.

To Obey God.  We must reach a firm decision to obey God as Joshua did.  In Joshua 24:15 he said, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  If we purpose in our hearts to obey God, we will find it easier to overcome temptation.  Obedience is of utmost importance because it is necessary to go to Heaven after this life has ended.  Be resolved to obey God.
